COMPARE CASINOS

With C$9.88 billion in monthly wagers, C$413.6 million in NAGGR and approximately 1.365 million active player accounts, the market reached new highs across several key measures.

Ontario’s regulated iGaming market has reached another major milestone, with players wagering a record C$9.88 billion in July 2026.

The latest figures from iGaming Ontario show that total cash wagers increased by about 4% from June and were nearly 31% higher than July 2025. The result marks the strongest monthly wagering performance since Ontario launched its regulated private-sector iGaming market in April 2022.

The growth was led overwhelmingly by online casino activity, while sports betting continued to generate substantial wagering volume during a month that followed the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ontario iGaming Market Sets New Monthly Record

Ontario’s total cash wagers reached approximately C$9.884 billion in July.

That surpassed the previous monthly record of about C$9.59 billion and represented a year-over-year increase of roughly 30.7%.

The market also generated C$413.6 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) during the month, up approximately 33% from July 2025.

July’s revenue figure was the second-highest monthly total recorded by Ontario’s regulated iGaming market, behind the record established in December 2025.

The number of active player accounts also reached a new high, climbing to approximately 1.365 million.

That was around 44% higher than the number of active accounts recorded in July 2025, showing that Ontario’s market growth is being accompanied by a significant expansion in player activity.

Online Casinos Continue to Drive Ontario’s Growth

Online casino gaming remains the dominant part of Ontario’s regulated market.

Casino wagers reached approximately C$8.78 billion in July, representing about 89% of all cash wagers.

The figure was up around 30% compared with the same month last year and established another monthly record for the province’s online casino sector.

Online casino revenue also reached a record C$330.4 million, accounting for approximately 80% of total market NAGGR.

The July result exceeded the previous online casino revenue record of C$326.4 million, which was set in May 2026.

The figures demonstrate just how important casino gaming has become to Ontario’s regulated online gambling market.

While sports betting tends to experience major fluctuations around large sporting events, casino games provide operators with a more consistent source of wagering activity throughout the year.

Sports Betting Remains Strong Despite Seasonal Dip

Sports betting generated approximately C$992 million in wagers during July.

Although that was below June’s figure, sports betting handle was still approximately 44% higher than July 2025.

The increase is particularly notable because July 2025 did not benefit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which took place across Canada, Mexico and the United States during June and July this year.

Sports betting generated approximately C$77.8 million in NAGGR, representing about 19% of Ontario’s total iGaming revenue.

The numbers suggest that Canada’s major sporting events continue to create significant opportunities for Ontario sportsbooks, even when activity falls from one month to the next.

Poker Remains a Small Part of the Market

Peer-to-peer poker continues to represent only a small portion of Ontario’s regulated iGaming activity.

Poker wagers reached approximately C$116 million in July, accounting for around 1% of total market wagers.

The segment also recorded a year-over-year decline, while poker revenue remained a small percentage of Ontario’s overall iGaming revenue.

The contrast between poker and online casino activity is becoming increasingly clear.

Casino gaming continues to set new records, while poker represents a much smaller and more volatile segment of Ontario’s regulated market.

More Players Are Entering Ontario’s Regulated Market

The growth in active player accounts is another important part of July’s results.

Ontario recorded approximately 1.365 million active player accounts, representing a new monthly record.

That figure was about 44% higher than the number recorded in July 2025.

However, average revenue per active player account fell to approximately C$303, down around 7.6% year over year.

This creates an interesting picture of Ontario’s market.

The number of active players is growing rapidly, but average revenue per player is moving in the opposite direction.

For operators, that could mean increased competition for customers and greater pressure to improve retention, promotions, product quality and player experience.

For the regulated market itself, the growing number of active accounts suggests that more gambling activity is taking place through licensed operators.

Hard Rock Bet Adds More Competition

The Ontario market also welcomed another major brand during the summer.

Hard Rock Bet launched in Ontario in July, combining online sports betting with casino gaming.

The launch represented the brand’s first international expansion and added another recognizable operator to an already competitive market.

Ontario currently has 48 licensed operators running 83 gaming websites, according to the latest market reporting.

The arrival of additional brands could intensify competition for Canadian players, particularly across online casino bonuses, sports betting promotions, game selection and customer retention.

What Does the Record Mean for Canada’s iGaming Industry?

Ontario’s latest results could have implications beyond the province.

Ontario remains Canada’s largest regulated private-sector iGaming market, and its performance provides an important benchmark as other provinces develop their own regulatory frameworks.

The continued growth of online casino wagering is particularly significant.

The July figures show that casino gaming is not simply benefiting from temporary spikes around sporting events. Instead, it has become the core revenue engine of Ontario’s regulated online gambling market.

The province’s performance may also increase interest from international operators and gaming suppliers looking to expand within Canada’s regulated market.

At the same time, the growing size of the market means regulators will face increasing pressure to maintain strong standards around advertising, responsible gambling, player protection and game compliance.

What Could Happen Next?

The next few months will be important for determining whether Ontario can maintain its record-setting momentum.

Several factors could influence the market:

  • Continued growth in online casino activity
  • Increased competition between licensed operators
  • New casino and sportsbook launches
  • Seasonal sports betting activity
  • Player acquisition and retention strategies
  • Regulatory developments
  • Responsible gambling initiatives
  • Expansion of gaming content and payment options

The July results provide strong evidence that Ontario’s regulated iGaming market is still expanding more than four years after its launch.

However, the falling average revenue per active account shows that market growth cannot be measured by wagering volume alone.

For operators, the next challenge will be converting Ontario’s growing player base into sustainable long-term engagement while maintaining compliance with the province’s regulatory requirements.

Ontario iGaming: A Market Still Breaking Records

Ontario’s July 2026 results represent another major milestone for Canada’s regulated online gambling industry.

With C$9.88 billion in monthly wagers, C$413.6 million in NAGGR and approximately 1.365 million active player accounts, the market reached new highs across several key measures.

Online casino gaming remains the clear driver, while sports betting continues to benefit from major sporting events and growing player participation.

As more operators enter the market and competition increases, Ontario is likely to remain one of the most closely watched regulated iGaming jurisdictions in North America.

For Canada’s wider gambling industry, the message is clear: Ontario’s regulated online casino and sports betting market is continuing to grow, and the next stage could bring even greater competition, innovation and regulatory scrutiny.
